The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast
was the beneficiary of the Serving and Swinging for the Kids Golf
and Tennis Tournament and the Tastes of the Emerald Coast Benefit.
The Golf Tournament kicked off the series of
events Thursday, October 25th at the Emerald Coast’s favorite golf
course, Regatta Bay. All golf teams were treated to a fantastic
goodie bag which included a $200 gift card to the Nike Store that
was set up on site. Golfers enjoyed a fantastic breakfast, great
gifts, perfect weather and a gourmet lunch provided by Rutherfords
465. Congratulations to our golf
tournament winners! First place went to tennis pro Fernando
Guarachi’s team with Jacqueline Guerra, Steve Myers, and Nick
White. Second place went to the Matthews and Hawkins, PA Team of
Dana Matthews, John Hawkins, Mike Jones, and Andy Brimer. Third
place went to our returning champions from Trustmark, Kevin Kelly,
Terry Mobley, John Sumrall, and Jerry Dunkle. The entire
tournament was a huge success and truly a class act!
Later that evening over 200 people including all
the golf and tennis players attended the Tastes of the Emerald
Coast Benefit. The benefit was held at the new Emerald Grande on
beautiful Destin Harbor. In addition to the fantastic surroundings
and décor of this glorious property, guests had breathtaking views
of the Gulf of Mexico and Choctawhatchee Bay from the ballroom!
Guests were treated to many tastes of the emerald coast provided
by the many superb chefs of Legendary, Inc. The food was
complimented by a number of wine vendors and a wonderful groove
was provided by the band Stixx. This Stixx was even better than
the original! Guests flocked around the numerous auction items
which ranged from hand blown glass, original oil paintings, spa
packages, and jewelry to name a few. The event had a number of
local celebrities and a very special visitor thanks to Cox
Communications. Miss America Lauren Nelson visited one of our
Clubs earlier that day to talk to our kids about internet safety
and staying safe online. Miss America and her escorts from our
partner Cox Communications attended the Benefit that night. She
was truly a site to see, all you had to do was follow the flash
bulbs to find her. A huge thank you goes to Cox Communications for
not only being an event sponsor, but making her visit possible.
On Saturday our ladies and men’s tennis
tournament kicked off at Seascape. It was truly a site to see! We
thought we were at the US Open! All of the ladies and gentlemen
were treated to a fantastic lunch provided by Tommy Bahama Café.
The weather could not have been better. Congratulations to our
ladies tennis winners, Ann Cronkhite and Diana Kovacs.
Congratulations to our men’s teams, first place George Landegger
and Pablo Gras, and second place Nick White and Eddie Guerra.
Everyone played great tennis and had a wonderful time.
The entire weekend was a fantastic combination
of sports, entertainment, and philanthropy. The kids, staff, board
of directors, and planning committee send out a BIG thank you to
all of our sponsors, players, and people who participated and made
the events possible. You are helping the Boys & Girls Clubs of the
Emerald Coast continue to provide a safe, positive, place for all
kids to go after school where they are always welcome. The Boys &
Girls Clubs provide life changing programs to help our youth
become responsible, contributing members and leaders of tomorrow.
Support YOUR Boys & Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast.
