DFS 2nd Annual Steak & Burger

The University of Alabama’s Team Chaplain and former NFL Player, Jeremiah Castille, will share his personal story on what it takes to be a champion at The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast (BGCEC) DeFuniak Springs Teen Center’s second annual Steak & Burger Dinner on Thursday, March 11 at 6 PM at the DeFuniak Springs Community Center. Proceeds will support the annual operating costs of the Teen Center. Corporate and community sponsors are being sought for the event.

Castille will share how God’s love transformed him from the life of abuse, domestic violence, and alcoholism that he grew up in to using his God-given athletic talents to play for the University of Alabama under Coach Paul “Bear” Bryant and succeeding on to play in the NFL. The qualities he learned while playing under Coach Bryant he contributes to his success today- positive attitude, strong work ethics and integrity.

Tickets for the Steak & Burger Event are $25 and available at The Teen Center or Tax Collector’s Office.

The goal of the event is to raise funds to help the Teen Center become self-sustaining with the long-term goal of raising enough capital to build a facility in DeFuniak Springs. The current facility has been graciously provided by the City of DeFuniak Springs and the Walton County Board of County Commissioners.

One of the successful attributes of Boys & Girls Clubs models across the country is their ability to operate through community donations and fundraisers. Each center is responsible for raising funds to pay for the operating expenses of the Club, which currently at the Teen Center consists of staff salaries.

“This event is an opportunity to hear the incredible and inspiring story of Jeremiah Castille as well as learn about the inspiring events taking place daily at the Teen Center,” said David King, Chairman of the Walton County Advisory Board for the DeFuniak Springs Teen Center and Member of the Board of Directors for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast. “We encourage the community to come and support us on this evening.”
The Teen Center currently has over 100 members on its roll with approximately 40 kids attending daily after school. Programs at the Teen Center are focused on developing academic skills, character, and healthy lifestyles. The Teen Center serves middle and high school aged youth.
